Day 31 : 21st October 2019
We left Kale (Myanmar) and traveled towards India and plan to complete the entry and reach Imphal. Hope you might remember the 43 floating wooden bridges we had to maneuver on Day 11 (1st October) and we have to do that again. These bridges were too slippery and it was worrying and we need to carefully cross those. Comforting factor is “we are doing it in the daylight and it is not raining”. Approached the 1st floating bridge and carefully and slowly crossed it. Heartbeat went for a sprint and it was not that difficult now because of the dried wood.
That gave some confidence and the remaining bridges got handled with ease and elegance. Don’t know how we managed to cross on day 11 and that too in the dark. Thinking back, we were lucky and all the blessings got us through on that day. Crossed the border and we got into some regulatory breach. No damage to the physical bodies (both mine and the bike) but we cannot proceed further on our bike. Sad story but definitely the reality. As mentioned on Day 11, please do a complete research on “Carnet” before doing any journey outside India using your vehicle. Carnet is a mandatory document and can be obtained by doing certain formalities (you can Google and all details are available).
Don’t believe in any 3rd parties who assures that a temporary permit can be arranged and carnet is not required. That is utter non-sense and don’t even try to believe such things. Approach the customs department and they would help you with the required formalities and do things as per the defined procedures. No short cuts to be taken and do things straight. I am hopeful of getting out of this situation and fingers crossed till then. Don’t worry and all is well with me and that’s what matters. Will keep you all informed and we are finally In India and happy to feel the air/soil and FOOD of the motherland. Love being in our country Jai Hind
